The Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) is pleased to share the news of a significant academic and ecclesial milestone: Rev. Dr Sunil George D’Souza, priest of the Diocese of Mangalore, has been appointed as the new Head of the Chair in Christianity at Mangalore University, succeeding Dr Ivan D’Souza.
Rev. Dr D’Souza brings with him a rich tapestry of academic excellence, pastoral leadership, and cultural engagement. Holding multiple degrees – MCom, MHRM, PGDJMC, MPhil, and PhD. He is widely respected for his scholarly contributions and his commitment to faith-based community development. His research has been published in esteemed international journals such as the FIIB Business Review, Personnel Review, and the International Journal of Educational Management. A prolific writer, he has also authored numerous articles in Konkani and Kannada, reflecting his deep roots in local culture and language.
Academic and Pastoral Journey
– Former faculty at the Postgraduate Studies and Research Centres of St Philomena College, Puttur, and Pompei College, Kirem
– Former Principal of St Joseph College, Jeppu, known for his visionary leadership and commitment to academic excellence
– Doctoral research on emotional intelligence and leadership in Mangalore Diocese colleges
– Current Diocesan Director of Basic Ecclesial Communities (BECs), having led 47 workshops to strengthen participatory Church life and grassroots faith formation
The Legacy of the Chair in Christianity
Established in 1987 through the visionary leadership of the late Bishop Basil D’Souza, the Chair in Christianity at Mangalore University has, for over 38 years, served as a vital platform for the academic study of Christian scriptures, philosophy, and ethics. It fosters Christian thought and literature in the Indian context and regularly organizes lectures, seminars, and conferences on themes such as social justice, ecology, interreligious harmony, and cultural dialogue.
The Chair functions under the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Mangalore University, in collaboration with Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha and an advisory committee of distinguished members.
