The Department of History – St.Aloysius (Deemed to be University) Mangaluru in collaboration with the Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK), organized a historic talk on January 10th, 2026. The guest speaker, Dr. Kranti Kiran Farias, a renowned historian, educator, and social reformer from Mumbai, delivered a lecture on “The Jews and the Mangalore Catholic Histories Entwined: A Historical Analysis”.
Dr. Farias, a Ph.D. holder in History and Master’s in Education from the University of Mumbai, is a distinguished scholar with numerous accolades, including fellowships from the Indian Council of Historical Research and the Asiatic Society of Bombay. Her research focuses on Indian Christian Nationalism, Indian Christianity, and Indian Jewish communities.
The event began with a prayer, followed by an inaugural session. Dr. Mona Mendonca, Head of the History Department, welcomed the gathering. Ms. Marjorie Texiera, Vice President, CASK, introduced the guest speaker. Dr. Farias’ presentation explored the historical connections between Jewish communities and Mangalore Catholics.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Mona Mendonca, with assistance from student coordinator Amit Chaudhary. The event was compered by Ms. Reya, a final-year BA student at the Sanidhya Hall, St.Aloysius University.
