Dr Rohan S. Monis – VP, CASK & CAO, Kanachur Hospital was the Chief Guest at the CPR Awareness & Demonstration to MGM, Udupi college NSS units 1 & 2 at Govt. Higher Primary School, Padubelle, Udupi District.
In his chief guest address, Dr Monis lauded the effort and the thought by Mr Suchith Kotian – NSS Sr. Coordinator; that these 100 NSS graduate camp students needed to be empowered on the much needed life skill – Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. Concurring with the NSS motto “Not Me, But You” this hands on skill would be a value add to their life and to their community – being a lay community rescuer: which was not only a character building for the young citizen of india but also a Nation Building process. Citing examples and the need of this skill especially in “non-healthcare graduates” – Dr Rohan emphasised that this initiative is clearly ‘An intervention into Education that would improve Social Well-Being’.
He quizzed them on Bharat’s Emergency Helpline Number – 112 and encouraged the NSS unit to reach out to their family & friends and share and teach them about this hands on learning episode.

Dr Eric Lobo – President, CASK expressed to the graduates that instead of wasting time on mobile phones – let us come together, talk, share ideas, and turn those ideas into action for the greater good of society – which was CASK’s preamble. He went back in time and told the students to come out – participate and to get involved in programmes like NSS, which could help them to be better citizens: meanwhile focusing on Learn, Unlearn and Relearn — and wished them well for their growing & better future.
Mr Peter Pinto – GC Member, CASK cheerfully stressed that NSS gives us an opportunity to take responsibility, develop leadership skills, conduct programmes and work as a team.
And this life skill we learn today – should be practised repeatedly – mastered and shared with others.
He insisted that they shouldn’t just wait for opportunities; but get involved and become an inspiration to others and become the strength to serve society tomorrow.
Dr Ramesh Kumar & Dr Lekhan Gowda – Dept of Emergency Medicine, Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences presented and demonstrated the steps and the techniques of CPR under the expert guidance of Dr Rohan Monis. The hands on demonstration was done using Manikins, Ambu Bags & AED’s. All the NSS unit graduates were trained and they executed their skill promptly well.
On the dais were present – the NSS Camp senior coordinators from MGM, Udupi : Dr Rekha Chandra – Professor, Computer Science & Mr Suchith Kotian – HOD, Journalism. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency treatment that’s done when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped. For example, when someone has sudden cardiac arrest or nearly drowns. CPR can help save a life when imparted at the right time.
